The Accessories That Complete Every Outfit

Watch Youtube Video

One thing I've noticed over the years is that I almost always start with the same foundation when I'm getting dressed. A white dress, a great pair of trousers, or a simple white top usually gives me the most flexibility. I don't feel like I have to compete with the outfit, which means I can have a little more fun with everything else.

That's exactly what inspired my latest YouTube video. Instead of changing the clothing itself, I wanted to see how much personality I could add just by changing the accessories.

They're the finishing touches that can completely change the direction of an outfit without requiring an entirely new wardrobe.

One accessory I'll probably never stop collecting is boots. I genuinely believe a great pair can transform even the simplest outfit. Rugged cowboy boots instantly add personality to a classic white dress, while a pair of leather boots with beautiful cut-out details can make a white tank and skirt feel much more intentional. Then there are my tall brown equestrian-style boots that somehow work with everything every autumn. I've worn them with dresses, shorts, denim—you name it. Each pair serves a different purpose, but they all have one thing in common: they add character.

I'm equally convinced that a good leather belt deserves a place in every closet. I have a ring belt and a vintage belt with an oversized buckle that I wear constantly because they do more than define the waist. they create a focal point, especially when I'm wearing neutral pieces. It's amazing how one accessory can completely change the proportions of an outfit while making it feel more finished.

Another category I've grown to appreciate is textured handbags. I don't tend to choose bags simply because they're a different color. I'm usually looking for texture instead. A suede fringe bag brings movement, a woven bag softens an outfit, and a structured leather handbag adds polish. They all tell a slightly different story while still fitting seamlessly into the same wardrobe.

And then there are the accessories that quietly pull everything together. A chunky cuff bracelet, layered textures, natural materials, interesting hardware—those are often the details people don't immediately notice, but somehow the outfit doesn't feel complete without them. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, so when I do, I like it to have a little presence.

If you've watched my videos for a while, you've probably noticed that I repeat accessories far more than I repeat trends. That's intentional. I'd much rather invest in pieces that continue to work season after season than constantly search for something new. Over time, those pieces become part of your signature, and I think that's what makes getting dressed feel effortless.

When I'm getting dressed, I'm rarely asking myself, "What do I need to buy?" I'm usually asking, "Which boots feel right today?" or "Would this outfit be better with suede instead of leather?" Those little decisions are often what make styling so much fun.

If I had to leave you with one takeaway from this week's video, it's this: don't underestimate the power of great accessories. They have a way of breathing new life into pieces you already own, and sometimes that's all an outfit was missing.
