She Is Trustworthy

What the text is actually saying
Batach — trusts
The Hebrew word for trusts is batach. It means to feel safe, to be free from anxiety, to rest without worry. It is the same word used in Psalm 22:9 and Proverbs 3:5. The trust her husband has in her is the same kind of trust she has in God. That is not a coincidence. It is how this works: she receives something from God, and it flows outward to the people around her. You cannot give what you have not been given.
Shalal — gain
The word translated "gain" is shalal — a military word meaning spoil or plunder. His life is enriched, multiplied, made more fruitful because of who she is. Not because of what she does for him. Because of the kind of woman she is to be near. Her presence is the gain.
"All the days of her life"
This is a long commitment. Not when she feels like it. Not when things are going well. Not when he deserves it. Her consistency is not something she produces through sheer effort. It comes from something deeper — a rootedness in God that holds steady across all kinds of days, not just the easy ones.
The claim this session makes
Being trustworthy is not something you perform for other people. It is what overflows when you are rooted in God.
The hard thing this session names
A lot of us are inconsistent in our relationships not because we don't care, but because we're running on empty. We're trying to give from a place that hasn't been filled. Others of us show up faithfully out of fear of letting people down — which can look like trustworthiness from the outside but feels like exhaustion on the inside. The Proverbs 31 woman isn't consistent because she's afraid to fail. She's consistent because she's drawing from Someone who never runs dry. The answer isn't to try harder. It's to go deeper in the place where you're already steady.

The text says "the heart of her husband trusts in her." Trust isn't something you demand — it builds over time. What in these two verses tells you where her trustworthiness actually comes from?

"All the days of her life" — not just the good days, not just when it's easy. What kind of foundation would someone need to sustain that kind of consistency over time?

Where in your life do you feel most like yourself — steady, present, not performing? Now think about where that goes away. What is different between those two places? What does that tell you about where you're drawing from?

Is there a relationship or situation in your life right now where you're showing up out of obligation rather than overflow? What would it cost you to be honest about that?

What is one thing you could protect or go deeper in this week — in your time with God, in your rest, in your quiet — that might change what comes out of you in the harder moments?

This week, notice when something in you tightens — when you shift from giving freely to just getting through it. Don't judge it. Just ask: what am I drawing from right now?
Think of one relationship where you want to show up differently. Instead of resolving to try harder, ask God what it would look like to go deeper in Him first — so that relationship gets something real, not something forced.
Journal prompt: Think of someone in your life whose consistency has changed something in you. What made them trustworthy? Was it what they did, or who they were?
Closing prayer
Father, we've tried to be consistent in our own strength, and we've worn ourselves out doing it. We've given from empty places and called it faithfulness. Show us the difference between performing and overflowing. Root us so deeply in You that what comes out of us — in every room, every relationship, every hard day — is something that first came from You. Make us women that others can lean on, not because we're trying harder, but because we're drawing from You. Amen.
